March 8, 2016

Is it possible that the mild winter is going to go out like a lamb….we can certainly hope so as this weather has been great! With this nice weather, we have started doing some small projects that normally would need to wait until later in March or April. As always much to do so we appreciate getting this early start.

Bids will be opened on March 16th for the asphalt overlay project which will include all of John Street, Fairlane Drive, Little Turtle Drive and a portion of Blue Jacket Drive. D
epending on the low bidder, this project will take place sometime this summer. We are also working on some final plans for S. Elm Street and hope to be able to put this out for bid by month end to again allow for summer construction. Additional utility work is also planned for this year and permits have been received and work will begin on these shortly

The parks will also start getting busy here with this warm weather as the Fort Recovery Youth Sports Organization is putting together youth teams and finalizing schedules for the spring / summer leagues. Progress continues on the recreational trail project and again
we are planning a late summer construction on this great project. The bench project has received great response and we thank everyone that has made the commitment to purchase a bench. We are still taking orders so anyone that wants to get involved in
donating an engraved bench for their business, organization or as a memorial to a family member you still have time but we hope to wrap this up shortly so we can get them ordered. Contact Erin Minor or I at the village office if you have an interest in donating an
engraved bench to our parks. Renovation of the restroom facility in Community Park is also being planned and will likely occur later this summer after the majority of the park activities are completed.

Council conducted a public hearing on two separate zoning map amendment applications at a special meeting held on March 7th. Dan Carr has submitted an application to rezone three properties on the northeast corner of the Wayne St and Broadway St intersection from R3 (multiresidential) to C1 (Central Commercial). This is the location of the current chiropractic office along with two adjoining rental properties. Also Dr. Carr requested a change on a portion of Lot#11 in the Industrial Park that borders Sharpsburg Road be changed from I (Industrial) to R3 (multiresidential). This would be to allow two building lots that total approximately .75 acres to be created while leaving the remaining portion of Lot #11 as Industrial. Both decisions are under consideration by the Village Council and will be discussed again at our next meeting on March 21st. Anyone having any input or opinion is welcome to share that with any council member or myself prior to this meeting.

With it being spring of the year and much going on, I will provide additional updates on various issues being faced by the village council in upcoming talks. As always if you have any issue that you feel needs addressed, pleasedon’t hesitate to contact me at the village office or stop in and see me and I will be glad to discuss it with you. Also a reminder that our village council meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:30 pm in the village hall and anyone is welcome to attend.
